In World War II, Liberty Ships were built in Sausalito in an area now known as the Gates. The WW II names Gate 3, Gate 5 and Gate 6 are still used for these areas. The GATERS are remnants of the REDLEGS, a band that formed and lived in the Gates area during the late sixties. Three former members of the REDLEGS, Maggie Catfish, Jeff Costello and Joe Tate are joined by Lonnie Walter, who grew up at the Gates.

Joe Tate is a former member of the Redlegs of Sausalito Waterfront fame. Joe still lives at Gate 5 with his wife Donna. He plays the No Name Bar every Saturday from 6-8:30 PM.
