Jazz at the Chimes presents an afternoon of lively Brazilian jazz with pianist and composer Marcos Silva. Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Silva was at the forefront of the Bossa Nova movement and has played with all the greats of Brazilian music. A keyboardist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator, Silva has served as music director, arranger, and keyboardist for Flora Purim, Airto, Toninho Horta, Paquito D'Rivera, Bud Shank, Ricardo Silveira, Dori Caymmi, Nana Caymmi, Danilo Caymmi, Edu Lobo, and more. He currently heads the Brazilian Department at the Jazzschool Institute in Berkeley, and has introduced hundreds of students to Brazilian jazz.
Concert will be followed by a meet & greet with the artist. "Jazz at the Chimes" is a concert series featuring Bay Area talent and held at the Julia Morgan landmark Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland. The Chapel provides a wonderful visual backdrop and acoustic listening venue for live music in a setting like no other. Tickets $15 general; $10 seniors & students: on sale at the door only.
