About this show
The Brothers Calatayud carry on a rich family musical legacy with roots in Goiania, Brazil, and are respected as some of the most unique representatives of the popular form of samba known as pagode. Born to a percussionist mother and a guitar-playing father, the Calatayud brothers —Marquinho (on cavaquinho, vocals) and percussionist Alex (renown and highly respected by musicians and fans for his pandeiro and timba playing), help keep alive a number of Brazil's most treasured musical traditions. With a repertoire approaching 500 songs, their heartfelt energetic shows span samba, pagode, bossa nova, chorinho, samba-reggae, Música Popular Brasileira (“MPB”), and other Brazilian forms. Their shows regularly include the Brothers' electrifying, soulful and distinctive takes on classic songs by Zeca Pagodinho, Fundo de Quintal, Martinho da Vila, Jorge Aragao, Paulinho da Viola and more. After almost two decades as some of Northern California's busiest and most beloved pagode musicians, the Brothers recently relocated back to Brazil. The Brothers come to Don Quixote's from Brazil as part of a short West Coast tour.
