In the latest installment of the monthly Acoustic Guitar Showcase series, the Sleeping Lady presents three unique artists within instrumental guitar. With styles ranging from folk, jazz, and classical to contemporary original compositions, this guitar summit is certain to be a joyous tour de force of solo, duet, and trio performances.
Teja Gerken is a contemporary steel-string fingerstyle guitarist known for his original compositions, many of which employ alternate tunings, two-handed tapping, percussive effects, and other extended guitar techniques. His latest CD is Postcards. WEB: www.tejagerken.com. VIDEO: http://youtu.be/JE0kIcOVHaI.
"This exceptional musician combines elements of folk, jazz, bluegrass and just about any style you can think of, into his seamless, lightning speed guitar workouts. Gerken plays World Fusion without losing his own identity or watering down styles." – Listen.com
Mark Goldenberg is best known for his role as lead guitarist in Jackson Browne’s band, a position he has held since 1994. He has also played with artists including Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson, Peter Frampton, and most recently has been touring with singer-songwriter Rebecca Pidgeon. But while Mark is the consummate sideman who makes other artists sound great, he has also developed a highly original solo guitar style that may be described as a combination of Michael Hedges, Ralph Towner, Marc Ribot, and Erik Satie. He released his self-titeled solo guitar CD in 2004, and his new album will be released in 2012. WEB: www.markgoldenberg.com. VIDEO: http://youtu.be/X8GOtQYgK-E.
“Mark Goldenberg's stunning collection of acoustic guitar pieces shows off the imagination and technical excellence that fellow artists and record producers have relied upon for years, although seldom is he credited for the formidable compositional strength that is on display here.” - Jackson Browne
Eric Skye is a Bay Area native who currently resides in Portland, Oregon. Most often billed as a jazz guitarist, Skye actually plays in an eclectic and original style, with a range of influences from bluegrass, to blues, to vintage funk, even a little classical guitar... all threaded together with a healthy respect for the groove. Eric has been featured in magazines such as Guitar Player, Acoustic Guitar, Jazziz, Jazz Improv, and 20th Century Guitar. Eric has been recognized with a signature model guitar by the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. His latest release (July 2012), A Different Kind Of Blue, is a solo acoustic fingerstyle guitar re-imagining of the landmark 1959 Miles Davis recording Kind Of Blue. WEB: www.ericskye.com.
